I have been reading quite a few fics while trying to sort my own stories out in my head. One author has captured me every single time with her stories. Mortissue's current fic, The Blue Hour's Chapter 30, is our Frisky Friday fic this week.
Summary: The blue hour is the period of twilight each morning and evening when indirect sunlight takes on a predominantly blue hue. That afternoon, in the forest, Bella sees through Edward's act and so he stays. He was never likely to get very far anyway, the shy human girl owned him body and soul. That was a few years ago now and that shy human girl has just graduated college . . . .
Before I get into the awesomeness that was chapter 30, I would love to introduce you to Mortissues. She has been in fandom for a few years now, mostly a Twilight fic writer, but has dabbled in other fandoms. Morty (as we affectionately call her) has written ten fics and I pray that she doesn't stop. Her fics are amazingly well written with fantastic plots that twist and turn you. Predictability does not exist with her stories. And what do I love the most about them? Non-canon! LOL! However not all her stories are. Edward does slip in now and then, but she has been majorly non-canon. Don't hold it against her. She just may make you rethink your USS Bellward. Plus SagaDevotee loves her and that chick's word is golden.
My Interview w/Mortissues: Fanfic Author, Shock Value Enthusiast, & Awesomeness Supreme
TUS: From what corner of the world does Morty hail?
Morty: I’m a Celt. I have freckles and everything.
TUS: *giggles* How did you get into Fanfiction? Which fandom popped your fanfic cherry?
Morty: Twilight. Its such a compelling story of first love. I started with all the lovey dovey Cullen related stuff and then got siphoned off onto the alternatives that dug around under the smiley cover. There’s some seriously good fanfiction out there . . . .
TUS: I totally agree. There are so many authors I love to read what they've written. Too many to name. Speaking of names... Why Mortissues? I have my guesses, but what’s the meaning behind the name?
Morty: “More tissues Nick. More tissues . . .”
TUS: As usual Morty, that clears everything up. :) What was it that inspired you to start writing Twilight Fanfiction?
Morty: Unemployment and depression. Not noble causes I know, lol
TUS: You'd be surprised, or maybe not, how many people in fandom would say the same. Writing/reading sometimes gets those struggles. Definitely makes it easy when you're reading about Emmett. However, it’s not just about Edward for you. You started out with “Finished Product”, a Bella/Jasper story. Is it the blonde curls that get ya?
Morty: I do have a weakness for blondes though I’m not so sure about the curls. My first love was all body, blonde hair and blue eyes. I may have been spoilt . . .
TUS: Niiiiiiceeeee. So, we know you love to write and the word brief is not in your vocabulary. Most of your fics *cough* all *cough* are over 30 chapters. Did you always think you would be so inspired over a story?
Morty: No, I just get carried away. If you think the fics are long you should see the stuff I cut, thousands of words worth, some of it really funny too . . .
TUS: I bet! *searches for the leftovers on Morty's editing floor with SagaDevotee* Which has been your favorite fic to write so far?
Morty: Repudiation. I loved tweaking some of the more obscure characters.
TUS: You owe me a Nahuel fic woman :). Now, Twilight hasn't been the only fandom you've dipped in . You wrote the True Blood fanfic “Wiles” which had me looking at Eric in a very different way. Plan to take another trek back down the TB lane? Maybe another fandom?
Morty: I’d like to do a sequel to Wiles, Eric is awesome , but I’m struggling for a decent plot. Wiles kind of covered everything for me. Other fandoms? Waiting to be gripped, maybe Falling Skies?
(About to give away some info on The Blue Hour)
TUS: Wow "Falling Skies" would be kickass. I'd follow you all over the fandom universe doll. “The Blue Hour” has turned into a Team Arthur fic. Arthur is your original character who has taken us all for surprise, more than once in this story so for. Who knew? Besides you that is. Was he your leading man all along?
Morty: No he wasn’t, you should see the outtakes, lol. I’m not always a very structured writer, sometimes, as with Troika, I like to develop the characters and then see what they do. I still haven’t forgiven Bella for Troika, which is why I picked Rosalie for my next fic.
TUS: Hell, I haven't even forgiven Bella for Troika. *sigh* Back to TBH, Chapter was crazy hot (in more ways than one.)
- We have a burning building.
- Bella kicking but.
- Bella's life changing realization.
- And damn that lemon at the end. SWEET BABY JEEBUS! Here's a snippet:
"I rock back against him with what I hope will be my last moment of clarity.
Am I taking advantage of him, using him?
Yes.
But right now I need something only he can give me, I need to feel and I need to not think . . . .
He works his way back up to kiss me again, harder, our teeth clashing. And then he picks me up and carries me back into the bedroom, ripping away the soiled bed clothes, laying me on the mattress and then following me down to press me into it, hard, and I moan and thrust myself up into him.
"Bella." He groans, rolling himself into me in a thrilling echo of what I actually want him to be doing. "Please, don't let me, stop me . . . ."
Fool please! You are done! Chapter 30 is the very reason why I rebirthed my “Frisky Friday” post. *shakes head from the fever* Back to the questions!
TUS: Are you weary of writing lemons? Or do they come to you naturally…and steamy?
Morty: I try not to put too many lemons into a story, or at least I have since The Whitlock Saga. Boring and repetitive sex is what can happen in real life, no one needs to read a story that ends up delivering the same. Stories should be an escape into another world. But that won’t be the last ‘Frisky Friday’ moment in The Blue Hour . . .
TUS: Well thank God for that! One last question... Any insight on what we can expect next in the TBH?
Morty: Girl, you know I never give away my plots . . . .
Dammit! And I do. SagaDevotee and I stalk her enough! She's not gonna dish the deets. Well, I hope you all enjoyed this special edition of Frisky Friday. Many thanks to my co-blogger, bestie, and fangirl extraordinaire, SagaDevotee. Couldn't do it without ya BB.
